Major parties in Uttarakhand 2002-2012

Uttarakhand is a state that was formed from splitting Uttar Pradesh back in 2000. Because of that it doesn't have a long electoral history as an independent state--there have been three elections over the past 16 years. In that time, the BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) has made inroads into Uttarakhand politics despite the INC-BJP dominance.
