Major parties in Goa 1967-2012

The MGP, or Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, formed Goa's first government in 1967 and was the state's leading party for many years before its first reverse in 1980. It became prominent again for a brief time in the 1990s but since then it's been a slow decline. In that time, the BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party) has replaced MGP as the dominant force.
